- Village license: anyone doing landscaping for hire needs a Garden City landscaper license and permit.
- Every year: licenses expire December 31 and have to be renewed.
- Decals: a village decal on the left front bumper of each truck and the left rear bumper of each trailer.
- Who it covers: mowing, trimming, pruning, planting, seeding and tree or shrub care for hire. Fertilizer and pesticide work is regulated by New York State.
Work hours and the summer leaf blower ban
- Weekdays: landscaping and power equipment from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday: 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- Gas leaf blowers: not allowed at all from the Saturday before Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Leaves and debris
Landscapers cant blow or leave clippings and leaves in the street or on public property, and fertilizer has to be swept off sidewalks and driveways, not into the road. During the fall leaf pickup, leaf-only piles go between the property line and the curb. No branches, no grass, no plastic bags, and keep the sidewalk clear.
